Use physical activity – and in particular through hiking and urban trekking – as a teaching tool in order to develop not only motor skills, but also transversal skills such as observation and critical and logical thinking; the desire to learn and research. With particular attention to the teaching of history and therefore of European historical and cultural knowledge. This is the basis of the VALUES project – enVironmentAL and historical edUcation in Europe throug Sport, that is Environmental and historical education in Europe through Sport – which on Saturday morning saw a first online meeting to define some fundamental activities. Among these, the selection of participants and teachers who will take part in the planned course. VALUES in fact provides for the implementation of a path that extends throughout the school year, which includes a series of excursions to the places of memory of the various partners involved: the Regional Association UISP-USEP Alpes-Méditerranée – which also plays the role leader – the UISP Ciriè Settimo Chivasso Committee, the French Comité Régionale AURA USEP and the Consell Esportiu del Baix Camp in Tarragona.
The project is based on the experience of “Les Chemins de la Mémorie” which for years has been carried out at national level by the association CRUSEP AURA – Comité Régional Union Sportive de l’Enseignement du Premier degrè, Auvergne Rhône Alpes – which uses precisely the physical activity as a didactic tool both historical and respectful for the environment. “The excursions will be interspersed with some stages in which the teachers do not limit themselves to the passive teaching of history, but will encourage the involvement of the students, stimulating the debate on current issues that can be linked with the events of the past” explains Roberto Rinaldi, Director of the UISP Ciriè Settimo Chivasso Committee and Head of International Projects. “Physical activity – he continues – will be a fundamental component of the project, because it will be useful to convey to young people the importance of a healthy and active lifestyle, but also an awareness of the environment that surrounds us and respect for the mountains. , to always be faced in safety “. In short, VALUES is also configured as an opportunity to create a real awareness campaign for young people on the subject of respect for the environment and the reduction – with consequent elimination – of pollution. But that is not all. The project also addresses multiple priorities of the Erasmus + program – from the European Green Deal to achieve climate neutrality in Europe by 2050, to the encouragement of participation in sport and physical activities, to promote education through these – and also intends to contribute to various objectives of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development of the United Nations. In this case it is Objective 3, to ensure a healthy life and promote well-being for all at all ages; of Objective 4, to ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all; of Objective 5, to achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls.
“The direct recipients of VALUES will be schools, with teachers and students aged between 6 and 15 and residing in the countries of France, Italy and Spain. Schools will be offered an innovative teaching method through sport, applicable not only to history, but also to other subjects such as natural sciences, civic education and geography ”concludes Rinaldi. The primary objective of the project, therefore, is to spread this good practice at a European level, experimenting it in other countries as well, through the creation of a network of experiences and a methodological manual that can be used by teachers from all over Europe.history, but also to other subjects such as natural sciences, civic education and geography ”concludes Rinaldi.
